Hicks Caribbean Design Aesthetic..For Rent!

I am chuckling to myself as I post today about dreamy vacation spots in the Caribbean after being back at work ONE day after the long weekend....but alas...the heart wants what the heart wants....it all began with my English girlfriend posting pictures of her recent trip to Crete (jealous)..which I will feature tomorrow while I am on a roll...

The Guest House was designed by India Hicks, daughter of famed British interior decorator David Hicks, and her partner David Flint Wood.

Built in 1999 by local carpenters and craftsmen in the style of an old Caribbean plantation house, it is set in a grove of coconut trees.

The forty-foot long verandas overlook both the pink sand beach and the ocean to the east and the bay to the west. The four bedrooms (2 king size upstairs and 2 twins downstairs) all have wooden four-poster beds, air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. There is a dining room, sitting room, kitchen and laundry. There is a private path to the beach, which is " close enough to throw an ice cube onto from the verandas", and two thatched beach cabanas with sun beds for the use of  guests. The house comes with a daily housekeeper.

The Cricket Pavilion is a 2,000 sq foot, studio style house. The outside is classical English architecture of the islands and based on an old club house that was found hidden away in the south of Eleuthera.

With a long broad terrace, and its oblique view of the ocean, it is set back from a quiet track to the beach. The interior is contemporary in design and has two generous king sized bedrooms with ensuite bath and shower rooms.

The long room has a vaulted ceiling to a cupola with an open plan kitchen at one end, and white painted wooden floor boards and a combination of contemporary and antique furniture and artwork. The Cricket Pavilion is centrally air-conditioned and comes with a daily house keeper too.

David Hicks was Britain's foremost interior designer of the 60's and 70's. He brought his unique vision to this residence on the Bahamian Island of Eleuthera.  It has storm-safe concrete-block walls that are coated with plaster mixed with honey-colored lime stone dust, textured with seashells.

The grand entry of Savannah at Windermere Island leads through to a screened porch and dining area. The large high ceilinged living room is soft and cool with bold sculptural paintings dominating the walls.  A detached guest pavilion stands to the right of the house. All rooms are air-conditioned with ensuite bathrooms. With two king bedrooms, one double twin and four bunk beds the house sleeps 10 comfortably.

There is a private path down to the five miles of deserted pink sand beach. Or a short walk brings you to the sheltered lagoon. There is also The Home Owners Club next door to the property, which in season has a restaurant and library with cable and satellite T.V. and year round there is a large swimming pool and two tennis courts. Windermere is a private gated island joining Eleuthera by bridge. There is a daily housekeeper and with notice a cook can be arranged as well.

If this isn't paradise I don't know what qualifies....
