New Year...New Projects...of course!

I get particularly busy as the weather gets colder and my attention turns from outside living to all the things that "bug" me inside...I'm fickle with my spaces...if inspiration strikes...things change pretty quickly...(thank goodness I have a family that understands my affliction/addiction)!

Recently I purchased a pair of very feminine vintage lamps in my favorite gold hue and white...I added a high gloss modern lamp shade and they made quite the perfect addition to my office space!

For some bling I added the vintage jewels as bouquets on each lamp for some temporary panache...I can remove them at any time...which of course I will...

My office has changed quite a bit through the years...here are a few "historical" images from the past few years...

recently things changed again...I wanted two work spaces...one for my computer and "day" job and the other larger workspace for all my creative pursuits! The room isn't large so I wanted to open it up a bit and add some more color...which I did with this fun teal/white  rug...

I ordered this chandy decal and placed it on my flea market found mirror. I would so love a real chandelier in this space but I am not willing to part with my ceiling fan...this room gets a ton of sun so I need the fan! Sometimes function wins over form!

I like my funky girly things to surround me in my office as well...it is after all my play space too!

some things remained the same from the previous designs...

The book shelves needed an update too...BEFORE

AFTER

I found some fun desk accessories too...a gold stapler and a lucite tape dispenser as well as a gold handled scissors and over sized paper clips... I like to make my own stationary and an example of the recent thank you card I made in pink and white rests on the shelf mirror...

A picture of me taken this Summer at the beach sits on a window ledge in back of my large work desk with one of my favorite flea market decanter finds in front...

My three favorite colors all together...blue, pink and white...with a little gold tray thrown in for good measure! This little composition of color puts a smile on my face...I love the idea of a pretty decanter and glasses in a work space...especially juxtaposing all the new with the "something old" in the form of vintage pink perfection!

Can we say cocktails while we work anyone? How very MadMen of me... on a serious note...how did any one's liver survive the 50's? I don't want the "spirits"...just the spirit of that era...lovely, no?

This side of the room needed a little "cozy-ing up"...I have always loved this large Gustav Klimt image so I didn't want to remove it...it reminds me every day of my favorite role...Motherhood...

so I put little sitting nook in front of it...now this is one of my favorite spots to "hang" in my office space...and I love that the kids come for a visit and sit and chat too...

this tiny little lamp adds just a perfect glow at night...

My brass addiction is on proud display here too...and the feathers just seemed frivolous and fun...I put an Indian necklace on my lamp as a whimsical bit o' fun too!...

Then I moved onto my bedroom....

BEFORE...my side tables and lamp shades were in desperate need for an update as I mentioned in a previous post...they were showing signs of age...I haven't found anything I love more YET to serve as bedside table replacements so that is when I always reach for the paint can!

In desperate need of cheesy Christmas movie time anyway I went to the basement and got to work with hours of the Hallmark Channel on auto play....what a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon during the holidays...

btw...I am crazy for the new Benjamin Moore line of non-VOC paint. No emissions- no smell...fabulous for inside work! It is difficult to tell the color here- but these tables are now a lovely shade of teal.

AFTER

I found great hardware at Anthropologie...and added a high gloss white lamp shade to my vintage marble lamp bases.

On another note....

I have always toyed with putting built ins on two walls of my bedroom but just have never wanted to hassle with all that doing it will entail..rewiring, rug trimming, moving a huge armoire, etc, etc.

I bit the bullet this month since my daughter needed an armoire for more storage in her bedroom and instead of buying something new for her...I decided to do what I should have done initially...

here is the BEFORE ..

the big reveal will be in a couple of weeks after the two walls of floor to ceiling built-ins that I designed are installed and styled....

but here is what I did to the armoire...painted it white and whitewash beige...and moved it across the hall...to my daughter's room.

I wallpapered the inside..using my new favorite thing...Target removable vinyl wallpaper...

goodness knows I need it to be removable in case I change my mind in a bit...lol...what a great invention!

I found great hardware again at Anthropologie...one of the best"chain" stores out there in my opinion!

on a side note this is my favorite thing in Lily's room...her shell encrusted weathered headboard...

After my side tables were done in my bedroom and my paint brush was still wet I decided to paint my foyer entry table too...

Are you tired yet? I am...this post ended up being longer than I anticipated...so much to do...so little time to do it in...stay tuned for upcoming adventures...

I am throwing a birthday party for a girlfriend this weekend...I will be back next week with some party images...have a great week!!

    1. Thanks Jessie! Painting furniture is such an easy fix in a pinch isn't it? The older I get the more I want more color!!

  2. It's amazing how our rooms evolve. But how boring life would be if we didn't jump in and make these changes. Love the armoire and the tables!!!
looking forward to seeing the new built-is. You will love having them!
