As I left you in the last post I was infusing black in my spaces...including a big dose in my living room niches....
As I styled things a bit differently to balance the new black niches...I knew I needed a bigger change... I DO get a kick out of changing spaces around a lot!
I didn't like how my soft blue chairs played against the drama of the black...I knew I could do better. I also have a big enough (and long in length) living room that I have always wanted to make into two distinct "parlor" spaces... I was completely inspired by my friend Tica- who did exactly that. Click here to see that post.
However I couldn't get past my "spacial block" when it came to my couch...as I was explaining all this to a clever friend of mine when she stopped by...she suggested a couple of new alternatives. Sometimes a new perspective is all you need! We all get stuck in our own spaces! So very quickly things went from this...
to this...in the course of a few hours last weekend...I was by myself and just went to town!
I put the legs back on my white lacquer table... and split the room in two parts using the table as the divider.
Here's a visual tour of the changes
I kept the black and pink x ottomans on the other side of the room for color balance and seating...
adding the white and black striped cotton dhurrie rug on the side of the room with the black niches tied everything together...
I moved furniture from other parts of the room...
and separated the architectural columns that used to support the coffee table and made two coffee tables with the addition of round glass that I had in my prop room in the basement. The brass tray you see below I kept on my coffee table outside during the Summer and had already put it in storage for the Winter...I quickly found it and turned it upside down for something different and a little more interesting...
I redid this antique chair and it resided in my bedroom...but I prefer it here. I will find something else for my bedroom....yes- a new hunt is on!
These two chairs were also redone "finds" and they used to reside underneath the sconces by the fireplace. I added two pillows that I had to create a neat little seating area...
On the other side of the room I made another coffee table from the other architectural column, a round glass top and a large round wood tray...
Since we are heading into Winter I brought in my brass log urn from outside and decided it looked just right as a textured element under the table...
a few more pics...
of course Stella made her way into at least one shot (that little girl knows how to strike a pose)...btw...my leather bench that used to reside in the living room now works so well in the foyer...I love it actually more in that spot and it is practical there as well...but since it is lengthy...I see a tray or some books that I can use to accessorize the center of it..still leaving plenty of room for someone to sit...
I love sitting on this side of the room too...
Yes..as you can tell...I'm completely crushing on my new space! I love making something brand new with just a little muscle and a just a couple $$ for a few essential new items. It really doesn't take a lot to transform a space! I purchased the striped rug and the round wood tray...everything else I already had....
I am already thinking what I can do in here during the holidays! Shocking I know...stay tuned!
XO Emily
