Fig Vine and other Southern Obsessions!

Have you ever? I just sighed deeply as I strolled by this display of fabulousness on a local street in Charleston. LOVE! I've decided that I am obsessed by a "little green number" called Fig Vine.

Fig Vine grows like Ivy but is indigenous only in the southern region of this country and other warmer climates. It is just MAGNIFICENT! I understand however from gardeners who I enthusiastically accosted during my stroll that it requires a lot of trimming and maintenance for it to really look it's best... but don't we all? ;)

One of my other favorite obsessions are the trees in this area of the country....

Moss is prolific in the warmth and humidity of the south...I just love it's crabby elegance!

Wisteria is also a fave...

and the window boxes were in full bloom even in March!

Have a bloomin' good weekend! XO

Driveways that Deliver and Doors that Beckon!

I love unusual driveway design...and I have to say on my recent trip to Charleston, South Carolina I saw a number of wonderfully creative solutions to the standard fare....

Here is one of my ultimate faves....

This one offered an elegant driveway and garage...with a great balcony as well...

Simple but lovely....

and who can resist a great cobblestone street...except my car and high heels...not so good on either!

I have a fixation with doors and no matter where I am I like to collect images of doors I find interesting and beautiful...here are a few that caught my eye in Charleston...

I love a classic like this...don't you?

Happy Wednesday!

Crazy for Courtyards...

Time as just gotten away from me since my last post... it's been a few weeks...but I have been busy traveling, event planning, boutique decorating and treasure hunting! All of which has provided me plenty of inspiration for Rue de Emily! On that note...

One of my favorite cities is Charleston, South Carolina. I love it's southern sophistication and polished panache! Recently I spent some time wandering the city and I fell in love all over again. I haven't been for many years and I think I appreciate it's charms even more now.

I'm a lady who can never resist a charming courtyard...walking the streets of Charleston just made me CRAZY for them in every shape and size...here is a very small sampling...

As I meandered through a winding alleyway I happened upon this church courtyard which held an overgrown cemetery...as I spoke to an older local gentleman...he informed me that the cemetery wasn't abandoned but groomed to look overgrown and a bit wild...just lovely!

Have a wonderful weekend! XO
