I know a lovely girl...who has a lovely Mother...naturally.
One of my closest friends spent several months preparing for her oldest daughter
Sophie's bat mitzvah...this past August....
As the date approached there was a bit of worry about rain since many of the weekend's events were held outside...but happily the weekend ended up being perfect in every way!
My wonderful
friend Jackie
really put together a very elegant, beautiful
and thoughtful
event that spanned a long weekend... as many of the guests attended from out of town...
which is no surprise to those of us who know her...since Jackie is a very elegant, beautiful and thoughtful woman...and her daughter is equally as lovely....SO when she enlisted my help with the multiple event flower designs and creations I was happy to oblige...
We went to my floral supplier together and selected the flowers and quantities weeks in advance
and made it a fun activity...I enlisted their help with all the flower prep a couple days prior to the first event...
We wanted each event to have a similar color scheme but a slightly different formality...based on
each party...but we also wanted everything to speak of Sophie...who is soft and feminine, gentle and pretty...but also self-assured...I like to think of the person when designing for them...it really helps the creative process for me...
Boxes of different sized
centerpieces lined her basement floors...in order to keep things cool prior to pick-up.
At the last minute we had to make a few changes to our flower selections...sometimes in the floral world the product you select weeks in advance doesn't make delivery in the end based on a myriad of factors usually related to disease or a bad crop... here was our original plan...for one of the centerpieces...
...this time the emerald green hydrangeas we selected....had to be replaced with lime green hydrangeas...
The first evening was a hosted evening at their fabulous home for close family and friends that flew in for the occasion. It was a catered affair on a beautiful Summer evening...poolside.
Jackie designed the entire color scheme and table decor...
The next evening Jackie and her husband David hosted a night at Ravinia Festival
which is a world renowned amphitheatre and outdoor music venue not far from their home...
The floral arrangements were designed to be more relaxed and pretty...almost with a "freshly picked from the meadow" vibe...
Sophie during her service...she was so poised for such a young lady and so polite with a smile on her face the entire time! Grace under pressure!
These arrangements were on each table at the Kiddush luncheon...
Sophie and Jackie take a moment outside the final event...her party that included everyone and her friends...
Again Jackie chose a beautiful way to incorporate Sophie into the evening's decor...her choices on colors and table centerpieces and settings were just perfect....
My beautiful friends...and gracious hosts....Jackie and her husband David.
Our girlfriend Dawn and myself at the reception..
Inside... a few quick pics before the festivities began....
I hope I was able to convey a glimpse of the attention to detail and the love that was woven throughout Sophie's celebration. I was thrilled to be able to participate on a small piece of the prep and as a guest...but most of all I take my hat off to Jackie- her gratitude and generosity of spirit and to the wonderful family she and David have and that they have created...together. I am lucky to have her and her family in my life!
Mazel Tov!!
XO Emily
P.S. One of the advantages to being a late departing guest is that I brought home a few of the left over arrangements and re-purposed yet again....lol...the party lived on around my house for days!
