Chicago Tribune Magazine Shoot in Our Garden.

Seven years ago, before I had even thought about "blogging" a  location scout for the Chicago Tribune came calling to do an article on how a relatively small backyard can pack a lot of punch.  We have done so much to the garden spaces since then it is so strange to look back at this article...it captured a moment in time...including my son at the cutest of ages near his favorite spot in the backyard...the pond...

They took this shot (not fuzzy in real life) sans any chandelier which always was perplexing to me...it feels like something is missing...

Here is how the space behind our Art Studio looked this Summer...

through the open french doors from inside the art studio...

last Summer it looked like this during the day and evening...

Here is a close-up of the editorial....

A view of the lower pond last Summer with the wisteria in bloom on the roof of the Art Studio.

Here's the pond this Summer..

More of the article as it appeared in the issue...a view of my upper deck garden and lower stone and brick patio...

another close-up of the editorial....

and here is how the space looks today...I must say I much prefer it now!

The patio and outdoor living room and a photograph from the rear of the yard then...

here is another clearer version of the photo from the page above...shot from the back of the garden..

and the stone and brick patio this past Spring...

and later on this past Summer...

we added the area below to the corner of our yard this Summer as you may have seen in a previous post...

another corner of the garden with my potting area and the dog run...

some of the plantings this Summer

the view of the back fence above the upper pond...

It is so true that a great garden evolves over time...I much prefer the spaces today! Actually Better Homes and Gardens magazine shot the garden a few years ago and it has yet to appear in an issue...I actually hope it doesn't now because the garden looks so different today...I would want to capture it now instead! I hope you enjoyed the article and tour...it gives you a little background on "le jardin"  Rue de Emily!
