How does my Garden Grow?

Today was a day that I look forward to all year... after all the work is completed...getting it ready... this was one of the first days I spent just hanging out in my garden most of the day...hallelujah!

I decided to take some pictures of the light throughout the day as I meandered about...I missed early morning when the light is very soft and warm which is a lovely time of day too ... but about 11:00 a.m. it is bright and sunny...

I like to sit in different areas of the garden taking in all the sights, sounds and smells...it just completely relaxes me...I find that I am the most "zen" in my garden or at the beach...I wish I could be in it all day every day on days like this!

By mid afternoon a warm glow overtakes the upper patio... this year I added a much bigger round coffee table in order to fit the large candelabra and jasmine as well as various appetizers and trays of drinks when entertaining or just eating by the fire.... a black Lutyens bench for extra seating also has come to stay....

also new this year is a console table made of cement columns that have been aging outside for twenty years and a big slab of blue stone (almost 6ft. long)...I thought this would make a great buffet spot for impromptu dinners and a lovely place to accessorize in between meals....

a little closer view....

Last evening we sat in front of the fire until we were ready for bed...one of my favorite activities is to watch the sun go down sitting in front of this fireplace...spending time laughing and telling stories or just snuggling with those I love!

The very back of the garden behind the art studio got a little face lift this year too... a new table and chairs and a few fun big green fir balls now hang from the trees... they add a little whimsy I think...and compliment the collection of little blue balls that also hang from the trees here and there...

As I mentioned in a previous post (click here) we also added this new patio and seating area that I just love...I am thrilled that we can easily seat 35 people for dinner around the garden in the different "rooms" without bringing in extra chairs or tables...I love entertaining on the fly and this will make it so much easier....

with all the rain everything is getting very lush...

The wisteria on the art studio is just blooming a bit...and the koi are happy and hungry as they always are this time of year...

a close up....

This year at the back of the garden the climbing hydrangea have really taken off...through the plates...but have yet to bloom...

but on the main garden gate trellis the climbing hydrangea are already blooming...hmm...

Some of the clematis is off to the races....

I found this little friend and placed him in the garden...one year a real frog hopped out of this planter and scared me to death...as I was watering...eek!

The hibiscus have had it rough this year with the cooler temps but are coming back strong....
My potting table...

The lilac scent replaced the viburnum aroma and it is just incredible...lilacs are one of my favorite flowers on the planet...I just wished the blooms and fragrance lasted longer...

My towering infernos (as I like to call them) are starting to burst with color...

all the other planters are too....

What is happening in your garden this year?

  4. Emily, your garden looks amazing! I have been in France for the past 10 days, and can't believe how much everything has grown while I have been gone. I love the big blue stone table. Your patio looks romantic, comfortable and so pretty. Makes me feel like I am in Provence again! Susan at Romancing the Home.
