A Proposal...

Many of you might be familiar with the story of David Lauren, the 39 year old son of fashion icon Ralph Lauren, marrying Lauren Bush, 27, niece of former President George W. Bush, in a beautiful ceremony at his family's Double RL Ranch in Colorado over this past Labor Day weekend.....

                    (Merci': Vogue Magazine)

What you might not know are the specifics of how David proposed as featured in this month's VOGUE. We have all heard many charming stories over the years of wonderful proposals but I must say I think David's proposal takes the proverbial cake!  Original, Thoughtful, Meaningful, Elegant...there really are no words.... I was so taken by this story that I had to share it in today's post in the spirit of love and togetherness during this wonderful time of year.

First, a little back story...

Lauren and David met seven years ago in NYC at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at a Costume Institute Gala. At each annual anniversary of their  initial "meeting" they would visit the Museum for a sentimental tour. So, when David suggested they meet there last year on the date of their introduction Lauren was not surprised. They were going to do a quick tour as in years past before attending a holiday dinner nearby....

What Lauren didn't realize was that David had arranged to have pictures of their life together for the past seven years blown up and arranged in the gallery where they had chosen to meet.

Instead of visiting the familiar artwork they knew so well... when Lauren arrived... there was David, alone, waiting, having created an exhibition of their life together.

When she arrived he got down on one knee and proposed. Then, they went outside and took a carriage ride with a clarinetist and a saxophonist following them on their ride through the neighboring streets of the city.

Is that not a charming tale?  As if the proposal wasn't magnificent enough Lauren had the good fortune to have her soon-to-be father-in-law (Ralph himself)  design her dress (which by the way took 100 craftsmen over 3,000 hours to hand embroider the tulle with delicate motifs of small flowers and scroll designs in ivory silk and metallic thread, Swarovski crystals and off-white pearl beads). The majestic setting in the Colorado Rockies wasn't too bad either!

Obviously David Lauren has access to wealth and celebrity that can easily afford such an extravagant display of affection...but what I really like about this story is the personalization and detail that went into the effort... which, frankly is the gold standard for a great proposal. Well done David! Lauren Bush Lauren is a lucky lady!
