A Chair Find!

I have been looking for awhile for a wonderfully old and ornate chair that I could gild and then upholster with a fabulous Carolyn Quartermaine fabric...well this weekend I found a beauty... and the age, fit and price were oh so right!

Many antique chairs are made too low for all 5 ft. 10" of me to sit comfortably so when I find one that works I get very excited...

I was so thrilled by my "find" and the good weather on Sunday (for painting outside) that I forgot to take the "before" shot before I got busy "gilding the lily" in the warm afternoon air...(knowing it was dropping into the 30's this week...brrr)..

Before the chair was completely gold I took this shot so you could see the reddish brown wood tones on the legs....



After a few coats it began to be "on it's way" to fabulousness!



If you use your imagination you can see what it will look like with new fabric like these wonderful selections from Carolyn Quartermaine....

 

 

 

 I like the idea of mixing a couple of the fabrics together to create a more interesting piece... maybe doing the seat and front of the chair each in different fabrics or doing the entire front of the chair in one fabric and the back in the other as in the samples below....

I also like the classic approach of the white with black script or the soft purple grey with white script all over as in these examples ...

but I am extremely fond of the black with gold script and the pink with gold script too...this is going to be difficult....oh so many choices...any favorite suggestions anyone...everyone? Here is another beautiful idea too...

                    
I have always coveted a chair or two with this aesthetic and now I will be able to create one myself! Yippee!! One day soon I will reveal it in it's final glory!
