The One Room Challenge....Week Four!

19 Design Oriented Bloggers......
( we had 20 but we lost one...hence the word "challenge")

...6 weeks to redesign a room!

Thanks again for visiting...if you missed the first three weeks please click here.

Week Four Projects

I have some serious new lighting issues to contend with as I redesign my living room space. I removed all lamps and floor lighting and need to create mood lighting through fixtures around the room...sconces, chandeliers, picture lighting, etc.

First I needed to redo my entry hall lighting to set the stage for the living room...you know that annoying thing that happens in design....one thing leads to another by default?

This is one of those situations...however... I found this little gem in a local shop and it screamed at me, "take me home"! So I did!

Here is how I redid it a bit to work better in my space....

I was coveting a pair of these sconces for each side of my fireplace but the dealer wouldn't negotiate and they were over priced...so I took a pass...sadly...but then....

The design fairies were looking out for me because I found something much better later in the week...

I zhooshed them up a bit...adding the black ribbon.

and here is my little tip of the day... first I visited one of the best resource stores ever created in my opinion......

they sell a product there that is a must have for any DIY designer...removable... glue adhesive dots...small enough to tackle the most delicate of projects with mighty strength!

I bought beautiful black ribbon while there for a quick update to the shades of my sconces...but ZOT DOTS let me try without committing...but the dots are strong enough to be a permanent glue if I decide my decision is a GO! I mean this is just BRILLIANT people!!!

Here is a sneak peak at how the sconces look in the daytime and I am also previewing the seashell colored metallic treatment I did on both panels opposite each end of the fireplace.
I love the subtle sheen in both the daytime and at night! I wish the photograph did it better justice!

My husband and I installed these inset panels around the room a few years ago to add architectural interest. I just decided to make them POP a bit more with this redo!
Remember the chandy I talked about purchasing in last week's post? Well here she is at night in all her glory...she is full of bling and the light just sings in the space! I will reveal her "daytime" look in the final reveal in Week Six.

I can't decide what "pose" I like better...

so she is being a good sport (as are you) in letting me feature her three times in this post!!

I am still working on lighting over my new artwork on the " gallery walls"  and I am busy trying to get a few stylish x ottomans built and upholstered by the end of this challenge...this might be tricky because my furniture craftsman is running behind and I have yet to find the perfect fabric...

and this is where YOU come in....

I need a great stylish fabric in fuchsia and gold....or fuchsia and white... or all three...does anyone have any great suggestions? Think GLAMOROUS, SOPHISTICATED, REGENCY-INSPIRED, TRINA TURK meets VERSACE
...maybe in silk....to go over these... the bases will be trimmed in gold not the white trim as shown! I would love a fabulous gold and fuchsia silk stripe...or something else equally fabulous! Please send me all of your suggestions!

Finally, remember the piano legs I said I saved...I created this...which you will see in the space in the Final Reveal....although since I positioned it in my foyer to get a picture you also get a peek at my new entry hall rug!

Well, were almost there...next week is Week Five and then the Final Reveal in Week Six! In the meantime please visit my blogging buddies to see what they've been up to this week....

    1. Oh wow...how lucky were you that the first sconce was overpriced? The one you came home with is stunning! Funny how it really does work out for the best. I love your x benches...no source for the fabric you mentioned...but someone will come through. That bench aka former piano, is lovely and I am loving your entry rug. Good week for you, Em!

    10. Glue Dots are such a life saver. I would never have thought to use them like this, but it's perfect! Both chandeliers are amazing and your bench is, well, perfect too. I can't wait to see your finished room.

    12. How in the heck do you get so much done in so little time, Emily? Do you sleep? Thank you so much for the glue dots heads up. I will remember that as hot glueing is not my friend. All of your lighting is fantastic. The sconce is my favorite. And brilliant idea to use piano legs -- they're fantastic!

    15. I think I like your second sconces even better- guess it pays to hold off till you find something you love at the right price!

    16. Love the sconces! I'm also on a quest for the perfect fuchsia and gold or black fabric to use on my James Mont style Asian chair in my bedroom. I found a beautiful silk shot with gold on eBay. However with a cat and dog in the house I need something more durable than silk. Keep us posted on your fabric finds as I'd love the help!
