Refreshing the Family Room...Part One

Next week I begin participating in a One Room Challenge with 20+ other bloggers and I will be chronicling my transformation of our living room....and since I am only allowed to feature one room I thought I would blog about my recent family room redo separately in the next couple of posts....

Here is what the family room looked like before I recently "refreshed" it....

I had purchased the... "oh so cozy" sectional...about 8 years ago...when the children were younger and our basement wasn't finished. Now that the basement houses essentially two family rooms (one for each child and their friends)...each with their own sectional...(this sectional was moved into one of those rooms)....it was time for a more sophisticated vibe upstairs...

The sectional was great while the children were young and we hung out in this space a lot...but it closed off the room too much for my liking....

It was always in my plan to eventually move the sectional downstairs to the basement and then invest in something more "me" when the time was right...

and here is what the space looks like today...

I found the old door for the coffee table in the basement of a local antique store...

and the architectural bases are from Restoration Hardware....

These are the Summer pillows that will change for the Fall/Winter....

I had high gloss white shades made for lamp bases I already owned...and found side tables at recent flea markets...

I love how fresh and open the space now feels...

Stay tuned for Part Deux tomorrow....
